Figure: “Timorn Ethesian Brotherly Love” by Natsuya Uesugi So I have been doing concept art for The Seer of Grace and Fire and wanted to share the final image from Book 2, The Seer of Ice and Sky (novel and manga). This drawing I think has a certain feel of kindness and compassion between two twins who have been through a traumatic experience. The drawing features Ethesian, the Dream Seer with the long hair comforting a wounded Timorn, her twin…..
Welcome to the Making Manga series. Today we will talk about visualizing your characters. So I was writing graphic noiz the manga about a fanboy manga artist and a bestselling author collaborating on a manga project of the author’s science fiction series Fissue. I got to about page 69 and then had writer’s block because we were getting to a place where the story was going to turn into a romance and that is not what I write. I…..
The Seer of Grace and Fire book 1 manuscript is completed and currently in beta. This book like grydscaen: tribute will feature illustrations for each chapter. The second book in the series, The Seer of Ice and Sky will also include chapter art. We have currently done 32 pieces of concept art for The Seer of Grace and Fire series. The banner above features characters from Book 2. The center character is Dalannin, the dark elf mage and he was…..
Now that we have grydscaen: dissonance edited and back to the publisher priming for publication and the grydscaen RPG starter booster pack cards are all formatted for the printer, we can start work back on “The Seer of Grace and Fire.” For the writing of the first novel in the trilogy we are in chapter 14 and the Beta Reader is in chapter 3. So this frees up my time except for my day job to work on Manga pages……
So with the majority of the character sketches done with only the Valkyris remaining, it is time to start thinking about creating manga pages for “The Seer of Grace and Fire.” I actually need to be proofreading the galley for grydscaen: dissonance but we are procrastinating for now. We were working on “graphic noise” and the associated manga but that became hard because it was about to turn into a love story which is not a place that I wanted…..
Today on our Making Manga series, we talk about screentone for shading a manga panel. A screentone is a sheet of sticky see through paper with a pattern on it. They usually come in packs as a set. There are background screentones, and ones for skin tone and shading. The traditional way of applying the screentone is done directly on the drawing after it is inked or it can also be done in the computer in programs like Manga Studio……
So today on our Making Manga series we will talk about Script Writing and using a Script to help you plan your manga. Working with comic book artists if you are a writer they want you to use a script. Most of them if you have a short story or novel do not actually read the book. Maybe you get lucky and they do. I know there are some writers who have had that luck with their artist but mostly it…..
Today we will talk about scene blocking in our making manga series. We were talking about graphic noise before but I want to focus on the new manga that I am working on for the grydscaen short story Rogue. We are currently working on the cover art for the Rogue manga which is set to be longer than 48 pages. The scene below is from the manga A Storm’s Coming. It focuses on Rom panhandling and an interaction with the…..
Today in our making manga series we are going to talk about writing dialogue. Dialogue is essential to convey conversations in your manga. For graphic noise I am in the process of writing the novel that will contain the story. When you write dialogue for a novel you have more space and time to convey your thoughts. This is not always the case in manga, you need to distill the dialogue down to its essential parts to ensure there is…..
Today in our making manga series we are going to talk a little about creating a storyboard. This process has a few terms for it, including a “name.” I went to art school and took a storyboarding class and I write novels so I know how to write a story. When writing the dialogue and story information for the grydscaen graphic novel – volume 1, I initially did a storyboard for the first 6 chapters. I started out just sketching. Mapping…..
